Liberalism: A Bad Choice

Commentary for Tuesday 05/08/2007 Liberalism the Spoiler!

Without Discipline: Nothing in this world demonstrates the failure of Liberalism like a spoiled child. Parents of spoiled children mimic the same actions as the Democratic Left. When the child cries and pouts the parents offer appeasement, that leads to more crying and pouting and more appeasement. They don't believe in correcting the problem, just pacification. Sound familiar? Democrats also believe in appeasement. Their belief that if they just award bad behavior with understanding, that the problem will eventually solve itself. This was sent to me by a friend and it perfectly illustrates the absurdity of appeasement:

"The Bird Feeder" author-Unknown..."I bought a bird feeder. I hung it on my back porch and filled it with seed. Within a week we had hundreds of birds taking advantage of the continuous flow of free and easily accessible food. But then the birds started building nests in the boards of the patio, above the table, and next to the barbecue. Then came the poop. It was everywhere: on the patio tile, the chairs, the table...everywhere. Then some of the birds turned mean: They would dive bomb me and try to peck me even though I had fed them out of my own pocket. And others bird were boisterous and loud: They sat on the feeder and squawked and screamed at all hours of the day and night and demanded that I fill it when it got low on food. After a while, I couldn't even sit on my own back porch anymore. I took down the bird feeder and in three days the birds were gone. I cleaned up their mess and took down the many nests they had built all over the patio. Soon, the back yard was like it used to be...quite, serene and no one demanding their rights to a free meal.

Now lets see...Our government gives out free food, subsidized housing, free medical care, free education and allows anyone born here to be an automatic citizen.
The illegals come by the tens of thousands. Our taxes go up to pay for free services. Small apartments meant to be single family dwellings, are now housing 5 families. You have to wait 6 hours to be seen by an emergency room doctor. Your child's 2nd grade class is behind other schools because over half the class doesn't speak English. Corn Flakes now come in a bilingual box, and I have to press "one" to hear my bank talk to me in English. People waving flags other than "Old Glory" are squawking and screaming in the streets, demanding more rights and freebies. Maybe it's time for the government to take down the bird feeder. Forget I said "Maybe." It IS time..."

Doughnuts: The bird feeder piece may or may not be true because there is no way to confirm the story, but I will tell you a true story that happened to me while in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Valcour, AVP 55, in 1964. Our cook was a big Pollack we called Ski. We were on assignment in the Persian Gulf and had been there several months. Big Ski decided to do something nice for everyone and got up extra early and made doughnuts. It took him almost half the night and until early morning to cook up the 800 or so doughnuts. He cooked enough for every man to have 2 each. However, instead of accolades and thank-you's from the crew, he was berated and castigated by them because they could only have 2 each. It was the last time we had doughnuts. Ski was just a man who wanted to do something nice for the crew, but instead was taken to the woodshed because some felt like it was their "right" to make gluttons of themselves. The crew never once thought about how much effort went into making those doughnuts.

Look Around: There were the Watts riots over welfare, the crime and disorder in our public housing, and the utter disrespect for our schools and other institutions. The Democrats have had the "Bird Feeder" out too long. Help is one thing, but creating a class that now demands everything for free is another. Very few of the underclass in this country would dare think about paying for health insurance or paying for the things that the rest of us have to pay for. But they always seem to have money for their CD's, drugs, HD-Televisions, and nice cars. It isn't the lack of funds that prevent them from being responsible citizens, it's their total disrespect for those of us who furnish the freebies that is to blame. These people haven't the slightest idea of who makes up the 'Government'. To them, the Charity Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, WIC foods, Head Start, Aid for Dependent Children and public housing are just 'magic'. The priorities on what to do with the money that they have, always begins with, "How can I satisfy 'me' with this money". I realize that not all who have received welfare are this way, but those who have used welfare responsibly, are way, way, down in the minority of welfare users.

Remove the Bird Feeder: Come on Democrats, quit ruining this country with your generosity with other peoples money! Be responsible yourselves and help by contributing to the rehabilitation of this country and remove the "Bird Feeder".
